Waterworld dives into new school learning project

Waterworld Leisure Group in Stoke-on-Trent has teamed up with The Inspirational Learning Group for a project to develop enterprise skills in primary school pupils.

Students will dive right into this challenge, working in teams to design a brand-new themed attraction for Waterworld, the UK’s number one tropical aqua park. Following the success of last year’s Stoke-on-Trent Primary School Challenge, The Inspirational Learning Group have teamed up with Staffordshire-based aqua park Waterworld for this year’s Primary School Challenge, which will be launched nationally for the first time. The challenge will introduce business and entrepreneurial skills to the primary school students as well as promoting key skills such as creativity, teamwork and communication.
Students will be asked to identify a target customer for their new themed area at Waterworld before creating a design concept for this new feature.
They will also consider the branding and marketing of their new attraction before developing an idea for associated merchandise which could be sold in the Waterworld gift shop.
And the final part of the challenge will see the students pitching their ideas to the judging panel. The winning team from each primary school will then upload their work onto an online portal, and the chosen finalists will compete at the grand finals event next summer at Waterworld, where they will pitch their concept to the senior leadership team for the chance to have their ideas become a reality! Waterworld’s commercial manager Wayne Goodall said: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with The Inspirational Learning Group to offer school children across the country a new and exciting project to get stuck into.
“All our sites across the Waterworld Leisure Resort have been developed into the high-quality attractions they are today through dedication, passion and entrepreneurial spirit; this is what we hope to see from the students taking part in this challenge.
“The project gives these children an opportunity to push the boundaries of the traditional school curriculum and they may even see their ideas come to life at Waterworld in the future!”
Michael Dyer, co-founder of The Inspirational Learning Group, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be teaming up with Staffordshire-based water park Waterworld on this year’s National Primary School Challenge.
“Last year’s challenge was a huge success on a local level and this is the first time that we have worked with primary aged students on a national scale.
“With fantastic feedback from teachers and pupils alike on our local challenges, we’re looking forward to seeing this year’s entries and welcoming the finalists to an exciting event next year”. Here’s what some of last year’s participants had to say:

  • “I have learnt to cooperate with team members & how to make decisions and delegate”.
  • “My favourite part of the day was pitching my idea to my classmates and acting out my advert”.
  • “What we have learnt today is useful because we worked with people we didn’t know well and we have now got skills that we can use in the future”.
