You’re Not Alone!

What a week it has been! Coronavirus is sweeping the nation, the continent and the world. No one is safe and now we are in lockdown. For me, that has meant being at home and manning the digital platforms for the children that I teach. I have been learning how to distance-teach and engage with my classes in an entirely different way. I don’t know about you, but I am quite a social being, which is why I probably went into education. I love interacting with the children I teach and the colleagues I work with but this week has been strangely silent.

No laughter, no banter, just me and my MacBook.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on my blog about following on social media being like a virtual smile. Little did I know how important those smiles would become in less than a month. Now, more than ever, as I sit at home on my laptops, I need to feel part of a wider community. This will be vital for my wellbeing in the days to come. What a wonderful thing to be able to do now, when my daily routine has been completely up-ended and the country is in lock-down. I would urge everyone to do the same – you are not alone.

Start by joining #TinyVoiceTuesdayUnites which runs all day Tuesday and #FFBWednesday which runs all day Wednesday. Comment and follow everyone in the thread – they should (hopefully) follow you back. Virtual smiles all round!

As the saying goes “A smile costs nothing…” and currently in this mad, mad world, it might mean everything to the person at the other end. Read the original post here – Read the whole blog here.

Toria has been teaching for twenty years and has had many roles in the primary sector over this time. She loves love learning about new ways of teaching and over the past twenty years her teaching has evolved with everything that she has learnt. Recently, Toria has discovered Twitter and views it as a massive staffroom where any educator can get help and advice from thousands of others. She sees it as such a powerful tool for educators that she is doing her best to make it more available to those newer or less well-known teachers on Twitter through the hashtag #TinyVoiceTuesday...
